His Eminence Tsula Lopen Rinpochay, Karma Rangdrol, was born in 1967 in Tormashong, Bhutan, to parents Tshering and Tshering Zomba. Even in his youth, he displayed remarkable sharpness of mind and a dignified demeanor beyond his years. At the tender age of 8, he embraced a monastic life at Monger Dratshang, immersing himself in the foundational studies of Dharma and the intricate rituals of Vajra Yana practice.
By 16, he journeyed to Thimphu Phajoding under the tutelage of the venerable Geyshey Gueden Rinchen, the 69th spiritual leader and Abbot. Here, he delved into the profound teachings of Dharma scriptures and was bestowed with numerous empowerments. In 1988, he enriched his understanding further by enrolling at Tago Buddhist University, studying under the renowned philosopher Lekshey jamtsho.
At the age of 25, under the guidance of great masters and the Central Monastic Body, he was appointed the principal of the Ngatshang Buddhist Collage, situated in the eastern region of Bhutan. Over the course of more than 5 years, he diligently imparted his wisdom on Buddhist scriptures and philosophies to the assembled monks. Subsequently, he embarked on a period of meditation.
During this transformative phase, he sought solace at Cheri meditation center, where he was blessed with teachings on Maha Mudra and the profound insights of six Naropas. For over three years, he meditated and absorbed these teachings, achieving heightened wisdom and perspectives. Acknowledging his dedication, the 68th Jekhenpo bestowed upon him the profound teachings of the Nyingma Tradition and others, furthering his spiritual journey.
In 2003, Rinpochay returned to the eastern part of Bhutan, establishing two Buddhist colleges. His teachings on Buddhist philosophies reached countless monks and lay practitioners alike, fostering a deeper understanding of the Dharma. Recognizing his immense contributions, the Central Monastic Body appointed him as a spiritual leader for an eastern state in 2015. Under his guidance, monk schools and meditation centers thrived, supported by his unwavering commitment to education and profound teachings.
In the auspicious year of 2020, Karma Rangdrol Rinpochay was honored with the title of Pedma Acharya, becoming His Eminence Tsula Lopen Rinpochay within the esteemed Central Monastic Body. From among a vast sea of distinguished masters and philosophers, he was chosen as a spiritual Abbot, tasked with overseeing the education across Bhutan’s Buddhist schools, colleges, and universities.
His Eminence Tsula Lopen Karma Rangdrol has cultivated a legacy of devoted students who serve as masters, principals, teachers, and meditators both locally and abroad. With regular visits to institutions and meditation centers, he imparts teachings on philosophies, bestowing empowerments and profound insights on Maha Mudra, the six Naropas, and other profound subjects.
